Tommy has been building traditional Shetland boats and repairing boats since 1956.
The yoal was the boat traditionally used by Shetland fishermen for many years. More recently these boats have become very popular and rowing races are held throughout the summer months, with many villages entering a number of teams.
The yoal, "Netti", built by Tommy, took part in the Great River Race in London in 1999. She came 6th overall and was first in her class.
Tommy has now semi-retired from boat building but there is usually a boat being made or repaired in his boat shed on the croft.
